Being one of the frequent MS Exchange Server users you never want to face exchange server error. But, as a regular user you must be able to deal with all sorts of errors.
Moreover, as a user you must not forget that the entire performance of MS-Exchange Server by and large depends upon the System Attendant service. Its absence will make situation worse and might even affect the working of Exchange related services. In fact, situation might occur where exchange server database may not mount, the moment Exchange System Attendant service stops running. Besides this, Information store of Microsoft Exchange also depends on Exchange System Attendant service. Any disturbance could equally affect the accessibility of data of Information store. Such problems do occur and chances are that you too could be the next one to face such issues.
Nevertheless, in order to get rid of problem related to information store, it is very important that you use a backup. If backup fails to recover, then go for a third party Exchange Database Recovery Softwarel.
To illustrate above issue, consider a scenario. When you make an attempt to start the MS-Exchange System Attendant service on a server, that is executing MS-Exchange Server 2000 or 2003, MS-Exchange System service does not start. In fact, you may receive the below stated error message on the screen as given below:
“Could not start Microsoft Information Service on local computer, Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion”
Following event ID comes on the screen in the system log:
- “Event Type: Error
- Event Source: MSExchangeSA
- Event Category: General
- Event ID: 9188
Description: Microsoft Exchange System Attendant failed to read the membership of group 'cn=Exchange Domain Servers,cn=Users,dc=domain,dc=root'. Error code '80072030'. Please check whether the local computer is a member of the group. If it is not, stop all the Microsoft Exchange services, add the local computer into the group manually and restart all the services. After the above error message pops up on the screen, the data saved in the Information Store becomes inaccessible.
Possible cause of error:
Probability is high that above situation occur when the System Attendant service starts, and it finds the groups mentioned below in only container of default Users:
- Exchange Services
- Exchange Enterprise Servers
- Exchange Domain Servers
If the groups are not present, the System Attendant service ensures absence of group. So, if these groups are not present in the Users container during the beginning of System Attendant service, it fails to start. The next possible reason could be the corruption of Exchange Server.
To successfully resolve the entire issue and access data of Exchange Server, you could follow the steps mentioned below:
1.Transfer the groups - Exchange Enterprise Servers, Exchange Services and Exchange Domain Servers to default Users container.
2. Restart System Attendant service
If the problem still persists, then it confirms the Corruption of Exchange Server. You could very well restore the corrupt or damaged EDB file using an inbuilt 'eseutil/p' command.
